Saying overt racism had no place in its organisation, Sky News has used the sacking of Ross Cameron to remind staff to use more measured language the next time they are racist on air.
Sky’s management said Ross Cameron failed to meet the standards of racism expected at the network and that there were strict policies in place to ensure racism was dignified and appropriate.
“This isn’t what we’re about at all. If you’re going to use racist stereotypes, then please, do it with a degree of refinement,” a memo to staff read.
“What Ross Cameron said was crass. If you’re going to denigrate Chinese people, we expect you to do it with sophistication. This isn’t Fox News”.
