Australians have pitched in to offer a pile of hundreds as an enticement for an alleged people smuggler to leave our shores.
The Canberra-based operative is said to have access to warships and substantial funds, which he has supposedly used to transport people across borders.
The operation – known as ‘Sovereign Borders’ – is mainly based in the waters between Australia and Indonesia.
The cash will be handed over in an unmarked bag, along with an orange boat and a GPS tracking device. “It’s unorthodox, but you never know, it might work,” a spokesperson said of the plan.
More to come.
