In an effort to make the voting process more straightforward, the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) will include pictures of each candidate’s daughter on ballot papers at Saturday’s Federal election.
A spokesperson for the AEC said it was part of ongoing improvements to ensure the voting process continues to reflect the political landscape.
Opposition Leader Tony Abbott said it made sense to provide more information on the ballot paper. “At the moment you’ve got this system where you’ve just got a name next to a box, so there’s no way of knowing how hot that person’s daughter is. It’s archaic. It’s wrong. This will make the voting process more informed”.
A magazine-style ballot paper is tipped for the 2016 election.
