Former US Presidents and dignitaries from around the world gathered in Dallas yesterday for the opening of the George W Bush Presidential Library.
Expecting to be presented with a grandiose building dedicated to intellect and reading, what they found instead was a small, dusty coffee table with a few baseball magazines and an old VCR remote.
President Obama, who was hoping to slink away with a good novel and a Sudoku after the ceremony, did well to hide his disappointment. “Well, it’s cute isn’t it,” he said.
Ex-President Bush said he hadn’t read any of the books in the new library yet but was looking forward to spending his retirement slowly getting through them.
