Prime Minister Scott Morrison says the ABC should be free from political meddling and announced that he’ll be having regular conversations with the board to ensure independence.
“What we’ve seen over the past week is that the independence of the ABC has been compromised. If they can’t sort it out, I’ll have to do it for them,” Mr Morrison said.
The PM used an interview on the ABC yesterday to reprimand the broadcaster for failing to uphold its independence from politicians, and provided a list of ways it should improve.
“The idea that our national broadcaster has been taking direction from Prime Ministers is shameful. I’ll be talking with the board today to tell them exactly what that should do about it,” he told the ABC.
