French people have voted overwhelmingly for a meringue-based confectionery item to run their country, saying it would do a better job than extreme far-right leader Marine Le Pen.
Chanting ‘Macaron! Macaron!’ people took to the streets across the country to celebrate the unlikely victory.
“This is sweet,” one Parisian said. “I’ve got no idea how well a small meringue can run our country, but it’s definitely a better option than Le Pen”.
In his victory speech Macaron said he will bring both sides together, no matter what colour. “We’ll unite the centre”.
He said he didn’t want to be put in a box “We will be putting the full range of options on the table”.
