The Labor Party will not raise the GST to 15% if elected.

Instead they will allow the two measures to come into line naturally over time, by keeping the GST rate at 10%.

Shadow Treasurer Chris Bowen said raising the GST rate would create too big a burden. “It would be very tough for Bill to know that the proportion of spending dedicated to tax is higher than the proportion of voters dedicated to him”.

The news comes after a poll found Mr Turnbull was the preferred Prime Minister amongst more than 64% of Australians and Labor MPs.
