Regular Australians have reacted with a mix of bemusement and disbelief at the Coalition’s so-called ‘Tropical Zone’ discussion paper, which floated the idea of incentivising people to move to northern Australia.
Reg Hubert from Sydney scoffed at the concept, saying, “Next there’ll be talk of setting up some special political zone in the middle of nowhere – country NSW or somewhere like that – and getting people to commute there from all over the place. Yeah, good one!”
Margaret Steward from Melbourne said “You’d have to pay me to live in northern Australia”.
Tony Abbott was on a plane and therefore unavailable for comment.
